Cause Of Dark And Puffy Eyelids

Dark eyelids are usually related to dark circles and under eye bags. These are among the most common dermatological problems to affect this area of skin, and are actually the result of leaky capillaries that cause the blood to ooze into the surrounding skin. Our body then starts a mopping up process, giving the skin a purplish or black-blue discoloration. There are various reasons for the blood vessels to break and cause blemishes and dark eyelids. Stress and lack of sleep, exposure to the sun, allergies, heredity, tension, fatigue, and deficiencies of Vitamin B, iron or Omega 3 fatty acids in the body are some of the primary reasons for puffiness, dark circles, and dark eyelids. Sometimes conditions like eczema and asthma also cause discoloration of the eyelids. However, you are less likely to face this problem if you get sound sleep for about eight hours every night, and eat enough green leafy vegetables to avoid deficiencies. You should also include fish oil in your diet. Make sure you don’t have a stressful lifestyle and take time to de-stress on a regular basis. If you are allergic to something, avoid those allergens. Also, treat the ailment, if any, which may be causing the discoloration. You should also drink lots of water to keep the body hydrated and work out regularly.

You can also try some home remedies that will solve the discoloration problem to a great extent, if followed regularly. To refresh and rejuvenate your eyes and the surrounding area, apply a cooling pack to your eyes. You can do this by placing cucumber slices, potato slices, or ice cubes wrapped in a clean cloth on them for 15 minutes regularly. These will not only lighten the skin but also soothe the eyes. You must of course keep your eyes closed when you place these on them. Tea bags are also known to be great curers of puffiness and discoloration. Being rich in anti oxidants, tea helps in lightening the color of the skin and also in reducing puffiness, which is the primary cause for dark eyelids. You can take a used, cool teabag, squeeze it, and place it on your closed eyes for about 10 minutes. Do this everyday, and you will see positive results within a week or two. You can also dip a clean cotton swab in cold water or rose water, and place it on the dark areas for about 10 minutes to sooth the eyes and also reduce the discoloration. Massaging the skin around your eyes with almond oil daily for about 10 minutes will also do work wonders within a month or so.
