Causes And Treatment For Corns

A corn is basically a hardening of the skin of the joints and is usually very painful. The main reason that corns occur is shoes that fit badly because the shoes will end up irritating the skin and make it harden in a conical shape. Women are more prone to corns because they wear high heeled shoes which exert a great deal of pressure on the toes. You can also develop corns due to bone spurs or flat feet. Corns are usually of two main types – hard and soft. Hard corns develop on the joints and in some cases, on the soles of the feet. The soft variety usually occurs in between the toes. While corns are usually not very serious, if you have diabetes, you must ensure that you consult a doctor as soon as possible as this could lead to a number of other complications.

One of the most common and effective remedies for corns is papaya. You can apply raw papaya on the corn directly and allow it to remain for at least ten minutes. You can also use papaya juice on the corn. Ripe pineapples and pineapple juice can also be used in the same way. Green figs are known to be helpful for the treatment of corns. You should take out a few tablespoons of the juice and apply it to your corn. You can also use a mixture of licorice and mustard oil to treat your corns. You should grind a few pieces of licorice with a teaspoon of mustard oil and apply this on the corns. This will work to soften the skin and hence, over some time, the corn will disappear. It is also beneficial to use a bath of chamomile tea for your feet. Ensure that the water is lukewarm and that you soak your feet for at least twenty minutes. Making a poultice of Indian squill is also recommended. You should first roast the bulb and then tie it to the affected area using a soft cloth or a gauze bandage over it. You can then remove it in the morning. Vinegar is also very helpful in treating corns. You can dip a soft cloth in vinegar and then tie it over the affected area like a bandage.

Apart from the home remedies, it is essential that you maintain foot hygiene. Ensure that your feet are always clean and dry. If you wear high heels or shoes that are not completely comfortable, you should change your footwear to comfortable shoes that do not chafe your skin.
