Peeling Skin Fingers – Home Remedies For Dry Skin And Flaking
How To Prevent Finger Skin From Peeling
The outer layer of the human skin peels off naturally every 28 days. However, when the epidermis, that is the outer layer of the skin, begins to peel off faster than the natural rate, it may be symptomatic of a medical condition called the peeling skin syndrome, which is hereditary in nature. Other ailments like psoriasis, eczema, scarlet fever, Kawasaki disease, exfoliative dermatitis, and an overdose of vitamin A may also lead to this problem. More commonly, excessive perspiration, sunburn and prolonged exposure to extremes of temperature, and viral infections may cause the skin on the fingers to peel rapidly. Nutritional imbalances may also cause the skin to peel faster than usual.
There are several simple home remedies that may be useful in treating this condition. Avoid washing your fingers too frequently and wear gloves while washing clothes or utensils, since the strong chemicals present in soaps and detergents dries up the skin and causes it to peel. Consume natural sources of vitamins and minerals such as fruits and green leafy vegetables, as these help nourish the skin cells and prevent flaking and peeling. You should also always use a gentle hand cream, especially when you step out of doors, in order to protect your skin from environmental factors like heat, moisture and dirt, and prevent it from peeling. Besides, you may apply a mixture of equal portions of honey and olive oil on your fingertips before going to bed every night. Applying the juice or the pulp of a cucumber on the peeling skin also provides immediate relief, moisturizes the damaged skin cells and heals the peeling skin. For another remedy, mix a little sandalwood powder with an equal quantity of turmeric powder, add some water to this mixture and make a thick paste out of it. Now apply this paste on your fingertips and leave it on till it dries completely. Then rinse away the paste with water. Dabbing the fingertips with fresh mint juice twice or thrice every day is also known to be an effective remedy for peeling skin. Soaking the fingers in an infusion of oatmeal powder and lukewarm water every night or during bath every day is also useful in soothing damaged skin cells and treating peeling skin. Following this, you could also massage some clarified butter or milk cream into the skin of your fingertips for about 10 minutes. This leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth the next morning.
